/ This is a pamphlet titled, "Fundamentals of Basketballs" written by Dr. James Naismith and published by the Rawlings Manufacturing Co. It is partially a promotional document for "Rawlings-Naismith Official Basketballs". There is an endorsement statement and an advertisement in the back. The rest of the 24 page pamphlet is a description of basketball, a listing of attributes that can be developed by playing the game, advice on how to play the game, and how basketball is used in various classes, school levels and organizations. The pamphlet is undated. Dated references within the pamphlet end around 1909, suggesting it may have been produced shortly after this time. However, the basketballs in the book are much newer than that. The Rawlings Facebook page shows an advertisement for the AXS and AXL Naismith Signature basketballs - the same ones shown in this booklet. Naismith's image in the booklet matches the one in this advertisement. This places the actual date of this booklet confidently around 1930.

/ With the demise of the Spalding-Reach guides after the 1942 edition, the Commissioner’s office put out the official 1943 guide for one season before handing off the "official" guide to A.S. Barnes for the 1945 and 1946 editions. This was colloquially known as the "Barnes Baseball Guide". Since there was no official 1944 guide, the 1945 Barnes guide covers both seasons. The Sporting News took over as the official guide starting with their 1947 edition.

There was at least one "Al Schracht Dope Book" Published by Sporting News in 1944. This edition consisted of dozens of colorful short news snippets with cartoon illustrations, followed by statistics and writeups of current Hall of Famers and past World Series'.
The Dope Book from 1948 thru 1985 was of an entirely different format. It featured a wide spectrum of articles and statistics. Several features, such as Club Rosters and All Star Game Records, were carried yearly for many years.
