In their first year in the East the Pistons would end a 4-year playoff drought by posting a 40-42 record as Dave Bing leads the league in scoring with 27.1 ppg. However, the Pistons would make a quick exit in the playoffs as they are beaten by the Boston Celtics in 6 games.
