The Pistons get a new arena of their own as they move into the Cobo Arena. However, on the court it was much of the same as the Pistons finished with a losing record of 37-43, but made the playoffs by finishing in 3rd place. In the playoffs the Pistons would shock the Cincinnati Royals in 4 games to reach the Western Division Finals. However, with a trip to the NBA Finals on the line the Pistons would struggle dropping the first 3 games to the Los Angeles Lakers. The Pistons would rally to win 2 straight games. However, with a chance to force a 7th game the Pistons would be beaten by the Lakers 123-117.
