Russell Wilson wore No. 16 while playing college football at N.C. State and again after he transferred to Wisconsin (he previously wore No. 11 in high school). - After Wilson was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the third round of the 2012 NFL draft, he switched to wearing No. 3 as a pro. The QB did not seem to have an apparent attachment to the number at his previous football stops, but Wilson has become attached to No. 3 in the NFL, even basing his brand around it (it’s literally called 3BRAND). - Lock, on the other hand, seemed to have a preference for No. 3 as he wore it both in high school and while playing college football at Missouri. After he was selected by the Denver Broncos in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft, Lock was able to keep his No. 3 as a pro. - Fast forward four years and Wilson and Lock are swapping teams, with Denver acquiring Wilson and Seattle landing Lock in a blockbuster trade. Both QBs wore No. 3 with their first NFL teams, but only one of them will stick with the number in 2022. - Wilson held up a No. 3 jersey at his introductory press conference on Wednesday and his No. 3 Broncos jerseys are already for sale. - Lock, on the other hand, announced on Twitter that he will be switching to No. 2. - “I respect the history, excited for the opportunity to write more, wearing the #2,” Lock wrote in a message to fans in Seattle. - - Hello Seattle! pic.twitter.com/Fq1wZBXfPj - — Drew Lock (@DrewLock23) March 16, 2022 - - - The “history” that Lock mentioned includes Wilson’s 10-year run with the Seahawks that included nine Pro Bowl selections and a Super Bowl win, a tough act to follow. It wouldn’t be surprising if Seattle’s equipment team advised against wearing Wilson’s old number with the split being so recent. - Lock can only hope that he will fare better wearing No. 2 than the last ex-Denver quarterback in Seattle — Paxton Lynch. - Follow the Broncos Wire Podcast: - Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Podcasts - - - List - - Russell Wilson trade: Seahawks fan provides Seattle perspective for Broncos fans - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Broncos Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Broncos Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
