USAT: Broncos Wire

Feb 24, 2022

The United States Football League is set to begin play in April, and some of the players might sound familiar to Denver Broncos fans. - Eleven former Broncos players were selected in the USFL draft this week, including three quarterbacks and a former starting cornerback. - Perhaps most notably, former Broncos quarterback Kyle Sloter appears to be a starter candidate for the New Orleans Breakers. Three other USFL teams drafted one ex-Denver player: the Houston Gamblers (OLB Ahmad Gooden), the New Jersey Generals (CB De’Vante Bausby) and the Birmingham Stallions (P Colby Wadman). - Two teams added a pair of former Broncos — the Philadelphia Stars selected QB Case Cookus and TE Bug Howard and the Pittsburgh Maulers added OL Nico Falah and WR Branden Mack. - The Michigan Panthers added a trio of ex-Denver players: QB Paxton Lynch, DB Orion Stewart and RB Stevie Scott III, although Stewart and Scott never appeared in a regular season game for the Broncos. - Given that Sloter was a preseason fan favorite in Denver and he now has a real chance to start, the Breakers might be the USFL team of choice for Broncos fans.
