Despite going undrafted in the 2009 NFL Draft, McLendon was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he spent the early years of his career. Initially, he was part of the practice squad, but his hard work and perseverance eventually earned him a spot on the active roster.

During his tenure with the Steelers, McLendon developed into a reliable player on the defensive line. He played a supporting role behind veteran nose tackle Casey Hampton and gradually saw more playing time as he honed his skills. He held this position for several seasons, contributing to the team's defensive efforts with his strength and technique.

In 2016, McLendon signed with the New York Jets, where he continued to be a steady presence on the defensive front. His experience and leadership were beneficial to the Jets' young defensive line. McLendon played with the Jets for several seasons, providing consistent performances and serving as a mentor to younger teammates. His time with the Jets further solidified his reputation as a dependable player in the league.

Midway through the 2020 season, McLendon was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Joining the Buccaneers added a new chapter to his career, as he became part of a team that would go on to win Super Bowl LV. Although McLendon was not a starter, his role in the defensive line rotation helped the Buccaneers maintain a strong defense throughout their championship run. His presence added depth and experience to the team, contributing to their overall success.
