Nick Masset, a right-handed pitcher, embarked on his Major League Baseball career with the Texas Rangers. Drafted in the eighth round of the 2000 MLB Draft, Masset worked his way through the minor leagues before making his MLB debut on June 27, 2006. His initial stint with the Rangers was brief, as he appeared in just eight games during the 2006 season.
In December 2006, Masset was traded to the Chicago White Sox as part of a deal that sent Brandon McCarthy to Texas. During his time with the White Sox, Masset transitioned from a starting pitcher to a reliever, a role that would define much of his career. Over the course of the 2007 and 2008 seasons, he made 67 appearances for Chicago, showcasing his ability to handle late-inning pressure.
Masset's journey continued when he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds in July 2008. This move marked a significant chapter in his career, as he became a reliable arm in the Reds' bullpen. From 2009 to 2011, Masset was a consistent presence on the mound, appearing in over 70 games each season. His performance in 2009 was particularly noteworthy, as he posted a 2.37 ERA over 74 games, establishing himself as a dependable setup man.
Unfortunately, injuries began to take a toll on Masset's career. He missed the entire 2012 season due to shoulder surgery and faced setbacks in his recovery. Despite these challenges, he remained determined to return to the mound. Masset eventually made his comeback with the Colorado Rockies in 2014, appearing in 51 games and demonstrating his resilience.
In 2015, Masset signed with the Miami Marlins, where he continued to contribute as a reliever. However, his time with the Marlins was short-lived, as he was released in June of that year. Shortly thereafter, he joined the Atlanta Braves, where he finished the season. Over the course of his MLB career, Masset played for five different teams, appearing in a total of 387 games.
