Lauri Korpikoski, a Finnish professional ice hockey player, began his NHL career after being drafted by the New York Rangers in the first round, 19th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. Born on July 28, 1986, in Turku, Finland, Korpikoski developed his skills in the Finnish leagues before making his way to North America. He played for TPS in the Finnish SM-liiga, where he honed his abilities as a forward, gaining attention for his speed and defensive capabilities.

Korpikoski made his NHL debut with the Rangers during the 2008-2009 season. His first game was memorable, as he scored a goal in his debut during the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Despite this promising start, his time with the Rangers was relatively short-lived. After spending the majority of the 2008-2009 season with the Rangers' AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, he was traded to the Phoenix Coyotes in July 2009.

With the Coyotes, Korpikoski found more stability and opportunity to develop his game. Over the next several seasons, he became a regular fixture in the Coyotes' lineup. Known for his defensive acumen and penalty-killing prowess, he was often relied upon in crucial situations. The 2010-2011 season was particularly noteworthy for Korpikoski, as he achieved career highs in goals and points, finishing the season with 19 goals and 40 points.

Korpikoski's tenure with the Coyotes lasted until 2015, during which he became a respected member of the team. His ability to play both wings and contribute on both ends of the ice made him a valuable asset. In June 2015, he was traded to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Boyd Gordon. His time with the Oilers was marked by a solid performance, but it was also a period of transition as the team was undergoing significant changes.

After one season with the Oilers, Korpikoski signed a professional tryout contract with the Calgary Flames in 2016 but was released before the season started. Shortly thereafter, he signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Stars. During his time with the Stars, he continued to be a reliable presence on the ice, contributing both offensively and defensively.

In March 2017, Korpikoski was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets, where he finished the season. Following his stint in the NHL, he returned to Europe, signing with ZSC Lions in the Swiss National League. His return to European hockey marked the end of his NHL career, but he continued to play professionally in Europe, bringing his experience and skills to the teams he joined.
