Starting his broadcasting career at WMCA in New York and then WLTH in Brooklyn in 1930, the radio personality known for his golden voice and versatile talent quickly rose to prominence. Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, his voice was a staple in live programming, introducing shows, moderating game shows, and performing live commercial reads. His radio credits include The Shadow, Easy Aces, Joyce Jordan, M.D., and This Is Nora Drake.

In 1941, he achieved his ambition of hosting his own quiz show, Quick As a Flash on the Mutual network. His television career was equally successful, serving as the original announcer for Candid Camera and introducing popular soap operas such as Love of Life (1951-1980), The Secret Storm (1954-1974), and Texas (1980-1982). He also played a role in Jan Murray's comedy game show Dollar a Second.

His unique voice, described as universally appealing, led him to narrate dozens of theatrical movie trailers and intermission segments during the 1940s and 1950s. He even parodied himself on the 1970s educational television program The Electric Company. His contributions to the broadcasting world have left an indelible mark, making him one of the leading lights of radio.
