Kellen Winslow II, son of Hall of Fame tight end Kellen Winslow Sr., pursued a career in professional football that saw him play for several teams in the National Football League (NFL). Drafted by the Cleveland Browns as the sixth overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft, Winslow entered the league with high expectations due to his collegiate success at the University of Miami, where he was recognized as one of the top tight ends in college football.
Winslow's rookie season with the Browns was marred by injury. He suffered a broken fibula in the second game of the season, which sidelined him for the remainder of the year. The following offseason, Winslow was involved in a motorcycle accident that resulted in a torn ACL, causing him to miss the entire 2005 season. These early setbacks delayed his ability to establish himself on the field.
Returning to action in 2006, Winslow began to demonstrate his potential. He played in all 16 games and recorded 89 receptions for 875 yards and three touchdowns. His performance earned him a spot as an alternate for the Pro Bowl. The 2007 season was arguably the peak of Winslow's career. He caught 82 passes for 1,106 yards and five touchdowns, earning a Pro Bowl selection and helping the Browns achieve a 10-6 record, narrowly missing the playoffs.
In 2009, Winslow was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he continued to be a reliable target. During his three seasons with the Buccaneers, he consistently produced solid numbers, including a career-high 77 receptions in 2009. Despite the team's struggles, Winslow remained a focal point of the Buccaneers' passing attack.
Winslow's tenure with the Buccaneers ended in 2012 when he was traded to the Seattle Seahawks. However, his time in Seattle was short-lived, as he was released before the start of the regular season. He then signed with the New England Patriots but was released after just one game.
In 2013, Winslow joined the New York Jets, where he played his final NFL season. He appeared in 12 games, starting in three, and recorded 31 receptions for 388 yards and two touchdowns. Winslow's career was ultimately affected by injuries and off-field issues, which limited his ability to maintain the high level of play he exhibited early on.
