Josh McRoberts, an American professional basketball player, spent a decade in the NBA, where he played for several teams and became known for his skills as a power forward. Born on February 28, 1987, in Indianapolis, Indiana, McRoberts attended Duke University, where he played college basketball for the Blue Devils. After two seasons at Duke, he declared for the NBA Draft.
In 2007, McRoberts was selected by the Portland Trail Blazers as the 37th overall pick in the second round. His rookie season saw limited action, as he played in just eight games for the Trail Blazers. The following year, he was traded to the Indiana Pacers, where he began to see more playing time and started to develop his game further.
During his tenure with the Pacers, McRoberts gradually increased his role on the team. By the 2010-2011 season, he was a regular starter, appearing in 72 games and averaging 7.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. His ability to pass and shoot from the perimeter made him a valuable asset to the Pacers' frontcourt.
In 2011, McRoberts signed with the Los Angeles Lakers. His time in Los Angeles was marked by a reduced role, as he played behind established stars. Despite this, he contributed to the team with his passing and basketball IQ, appearing in 50 games during the lockout-shortened 2011-2012 season.
The following year, McRoberts was traded to the Orlando Magic. His stint with the Magic was brief, as he played only 41 games before being traded to the Charlotte Bobcats in 2013. It was in Charlotte where McRoberts found a more stable role, becoming a key part of the team's rotation. During the 2013-2014 season, he started in all 78 games he played, averaging 8.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game. His performance helped the Bobcats reach the playoffs for the first time since 2010.
In 2014, McRoberts signed with the Miami Heat. His time with the Heat was plagued by injuries, limiting his ability to contribute consistently. Over four seasons, he played in only 81 games, with his best season being 2014-2015, where he averaged 4.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. Despite the setbacks, McRoberts remained a respected presence in the locker room and provided veteran leadership to the younger players.
In 2017, McRoberts was traded to the Dallas Mavericks. However, injuries continued to hamper his career, and he appeared in just two games for the Mavericks during the 2017-2018 season. Following that season, McRoberts did not sign with another NBA team, effectively bringing his professional basketball career to a close.
Throughout his career, McRoberts was known for his passing ability, basketball intelligence, and team-oriented play.
