James Osborne McIntyre, a sportscaster born on January 4, 1925, in Ohio County, Kentucky, began his broadcasting career in 1945 at WAVE in Louisville. There, he served as a baseball announcer for the Louisville Colonels, part of the American Association.

In 1956, McIntyre moved to Indianapolis, joining WISH radio and television as a sports show host and a play-by-play radio announcer for the Indianapolis Indians baseball and Butler University basketball teams. He shifted to WFBM radio and television in 1960. Over the next five years, he anchored sports shows, provided play-by-play commentary for Purdue University football, and covered the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race. Additionally, he contributed to sports shows on CBS and ABC networks.

McIntyre's ambition led him to major league baseball play-by-play broadcasting, a milestone he achieved in 1966 with the Cincinnati Reds. He spent five seasons with the Reds, including covering the 1970 World Series, where the Reds were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles, 4-1.

After leaving the Reds in 1970 due to travel fatigue, McIntyre returned to Indianapolis. He briefly worked with WNDE, formerly WFBM radio, and announced for the Indianapolis Indians in 1971. He then transitioned from broadcasting to a career in business in the early 1970s.
