In the 1950s and 1960s, Gunther Brewing Company expanded its reach and began distributing its beer to several states along the East Coast. At its peak, the brewery produced over one million barrels of beer a year and employed over 500 people.
However, in the 1970s, Gunther Brewing Company began to struggle financially, and the brewery was eventually sold to the F&M Schaefer Brewing Company in 1979. Schaefer Brewing continued to produce Gunther's beer for a short time before discontinuing the brand.
Today, the former Gunther Brewing Company brewery building still stands in Baltimore and has been repurposed as a mixed-use commercial and residential space. The Gunther Apartments, as they are now known, offer modern amenities and a nod to the building's industrial past. While Gunther's beer is no longer in production, the brand remains a part of Baltimore's rich brewing history.
