The former Draper and Maynard Sporting Goods Factory (D&M) is located in Plymouth, New Hampshire on the campus of Plymouth State University. D&M’s contribution to the world of professional sport and this community is well documented. As early as the late 1890s the two owners of the then present glove factory, Mr. Jason F. Draper and John F. Maynard, recognized the commercial value of the Arthur Irwin’s (Providence Grays shortstop) concept of a padded glove. The idea of a padded glove for professional baseball might minimize injury while enhancing performance. From this event to several visits to the factory by Boston Red Sox players over the next several decades helped solidify this factory as one of the early, leading sporting goods manufacturers in the United States.
