Donovan Solano, a Colombian infielder, embarked on his Major League Baseball (MLB) journey with the Miami Marlins. Born on December 17, 1987, in Barranquilla, Colombia, Solano's path to the majors began when he signed with the St. Louis Cardinals as an international free agent in 2005. However, it wasn't until he joined the Marlins that he made his MLB debut on May 21, 2012.

During his time with the Marlins, Solano primarily played as a second baseman. In his debut season, he appeared in 93 games, posting a .295 batting average, which was a promising start to his career. Solano's ability to make contact and his defensive skills were assets to the Marlins' infield. Over the next few seasons, he continued to be a reliable presence for Miami, although his batting average fluctuated. In 2013, he played in 102 games, hitting .249, and in 2014, he appeared in 111 games with a .252 average.

After his stint with the Marlins, Solano spent some time in the minor leagues, signing a minor league contract with the New York Yankees in 2016. He was called up to the Yankees' major league roster in May of that year, where he played in nine games. Despite limited opportunities, Solano continued to hone his skills and remained determined to return to the majors.

In 2018, Solano signed a minor league deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers but did not make an appearance for their major league team. His perseverance paid off when he signed with the San Francisco Giants in 2019. Solano's time with the Giants marked a resurgence in his career. He played in 81 games during the 2019 season, achieving a .330 batting average, which was a career-high at that point. His performance earned him a more regular role with the team.

The 2020 season, shortened by the COVID-19 pandemic, saw Solano continue to excel at the plate. He played in 54 games and maintained a .326 batting average, earning him the National League Silver Slugger Award for second basemen. This accolade highlighted his offensive prowess and solidified his place in the Giants' lineup.

In 2021, Solano continued to contribute to the Giants, appearing in 101 games and hitting .280. His consistent performance helped the Giants secure a playoff berth, although they were eventually eliminated by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Division Series.
