Clarence "Dolly" Dolson was a significant figure in the National Hockey League (NHL), playing in 93 games for the Detroit Cougars/Falcons. Born in Hespeler, Dolson moved to Galt in 1903, where he began his hockey career with a local team that won the OHA Junior Northern Hockey League championship in 1914-15. His impressive record for fewest goals allowed while in Detroit, including 10 shutouts in a single season, was unchallenged until Terry Sawchuk's era.

Dolson's professional career began when Jack Adams, the head of the Detroit Cougars, offered him a contract. Despite his excellent first season (1928-29), with 19 wins, 10 shutouts, and a GAA of 1.37, Adams replaced him with Bill Beveridge. Dolson returned a year later, delivering a strong performance despite Detroit's overall poor showing.

His tenure with Detroit ended when the team picked up star goaltender Alex Connell after the Ottawa Senators ceased operations. Dolson was sent to the minors, playing with the Cleveland Indians in the International-American Hockey League from 1931 to 1933.

Before his NHL career, Dolson played for the Galt Terriers of the Big Six League, demonstrating his skills as a catcher and hitter. Post-NHL, he worked for the CNR in Stratford for 54 years, where he also played for the Stratford Indians and the Nationals in the Canadian Professional League. He retired from hockey in 1933. Dolson passed away in Stratford at the age of 78.
