Darrin Nelson's football career began to take shape during his college years at Stanford University, where he played under the guidance of coach Bill Walsh. Nelson was a standout running back for the Stanford Cardinal, becoming the first player in NCAA history to rush for over 1,000 yards and catch more than 50 passes in a single season.
