Chris Jacke, a professional American football placekicker, played primarily for the Green Bay Packers in the National Football League (NFL). Born on March 12, 1966, in Richmond, Virginia, Jacke attended the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), where he honed his skills as a kicker. His college career set the stage for his entry into the NFL when the Green Bay Packers selected him in the sixth round of the 1989 NFL Draft.
Jacke quickly established himself as a reliable kicker for the Packers. Throughout his tenure with the team, he became known for his strong leg and accuracy, contributing significantly to the Packers' special teams unit. One of his most memorable moments came during the 1993 season when he kicked a game-winning 53-yard field goal in overtime against the San Francisco 49ers, a highlight that underscored his ability to perform under pressure.
During his time with the Packers, Jacke played under head coach Mike Holmgren and alongside quarterback Brett Favre, both of whom were instrumental in the team's resurgence in the early 1990s. Jacke's consistency as a kicker helped the Packers reach the playoffs multiple times, culminating in their victory in Super Bowl XXXI following the 1996 season. Although he was not the starting kicker in the Super Bowl, his contributions throughout the season were vital to the team's success.
After leaving the Packers in 1997, Jacke had brief stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington Redskins, and Arizona Cardinals. His time with these teams was less impactful than his years in Green Bay, but he continued to demonstrate his kicking abilities until his retirement from professional football.
Throughout his NFL career, Jacke made 173 field goals out of 222 attempts, achieving a field goal percentage of 77.0%. He also successfully converted 286 out of 294 extra-point attempts. These statistics reflect his reliability and skill as a placekicker during his decade-long career in the league.
In recognition of his contributions to the Green Bay Packers, Jacke was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame in 2013.
