Andrew Sendejo's journey in professional football began after a collegiate career at Rice University, where he played as a safety. Despite going undrafted in the 2010 NFL Draft, Sendejo's determination to play at the professional level led him to sign with the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League. His performance there caught the attention of NFL scouts, and he soon found an opportunity with the Dallas Cowboys, who signed him in November 2010.
Sendejo's time with the Cowboys was brief, as he played in just two games before being waived. However, his NFL career gained traction when he was claimed off waivers by the New York Jets in December 2010. His stint with the Jets was also short-lived, but it paved the way for a more stable opportunity with the Minnesota Vikings, who signed him in 2011.
With the Vikings, Sendejo gradually established himself as a reliable player in the secondary. Initially contributing on special teams, he worked his way into the defensive lineup. Over the years, he became a regular starter at safety, known for his hard-hitting style and ability to read the game. His tenure with the Vikings spanned nearly a decade, during which he played a crucial role in the team's defense.
Sendejo's time in Minnesota was marked by several highlights, including helping the team reach the playoffs multiple times. His performance in the 2017 season was particularly noteworthy, as the Vikings boasted one of the league's top defenses and advanced to the NFC Championship Game. Sendejo's contributions in the secondary were integral to the team's success that year.
In 2019, Sendejo signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he continued to demonstrate his skills as a safety. Midway through the season, he was waived by the Eagles and subsequently rejoined the Vikings, finishing the season back in Minnesota. The following year, Sendejo signed with the Cleveland Browns, where he played the entire 2020 season, adding veteran experience to their defensive backfield.
Sendejo's career continued with a brief stint with the Indianapolis Colts in 2021.
