Dignitaries Gather to Honor Stan Musial's 3,000 Hits at Busch Stadium
On June 8, 1959, a ceremony was held at Busch Stadium in St. Louis to honor Stan Musial for reaching 3,000 hits in Major League Baseball. The event featured several dignitaries and notable figures, highlighting Musial’s significance in the sport. Among those present were Milton Carpenter, Missouri Collector of Revenue; Governor James T. Blair of Missouri; Mayor Raymond R. Tucker of St. Louis; and Dick Meyer, vice-president of the St. Louis Cardinals. Also in attendance were Tris Speaker, an iconic MLB player, and Musial’s family members, including his wife, Mary Musial, and their two daughters. Warren Giles, the president of the National League, and Paul Waner, another significant figure from baseball history, were also part of the celebration.
