1920 World Series: Bill Wambsganss's Unassisted Triple Play
The Page from the 1948-10 Sportfolio highlights a significant moment in World Series history achieved by Bill Wambsganss of the Cleveland team. Known more commonly as "Wamby," he executed the only unassisted triple play in World Series history during a game against Brooklyn in 1920. This historic play occurred in the fifth game of the series. To achieve this, Wambsganss skillfully caught a line drive, tagged the second base, and then tagged the runner advancing from first base, completing the rare feat all by himself. Such plays are extremely rare in baseball, and accomplishing it in the World Series adds to its historical significance. The Cleveland team eventually won the 1920 World Series.
