The Pittsburgh Pirates became the Philadelphia Quakers before the season opened and the financially troubled Ottawa Senators sold off a bunch of players, including future Hall of Famer King Clancy, who went to the Toronto Maple Leafs for $35,000 and two players.
The Boston Bruins again had the league's best record, going 28-10-6. In the Canadian Division, the Montreal Canadiens moved up to first place from second the previous season.
The Canadiens beat the Bruins in their playoff series, while the Chicago Black Hawks beat Toronto and the New York Rangers to get into the Stanley Cup finals for the first time.
The championship series was expanded from best-of-three to best-of-five. Chicago took a 2-1 lead, but the Canadiens came back to win two in a row at the Montreal Forum to take the Stanley Cup for the second year in a row.
