The Boston Bruins again had the best record in the NHL. The three members of Boston's 'Kraut Line,' Milt Schmidt, Woody Dumart, and Bobby Bauer finished 1-2-3 in scoring.
But the New York Rangers upset the Bruins in six games in their semifinal series and went on to meet the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Stanley Cup final. The Leafs got there by beating the Chicago Black Hawks and Detroit Red Wings.
The Rangers won the first two games at home, but the rest of the series was played in Toronto because a circus had taken over Madison Square Garden. After the Maple Leafs evened it up with two wins, New York won the next two in overtime to take their third Stanley Cup championship.
